Abstract

This study is motivated by the widespread use of social media among teenagers, which potentially affects students’ morals. The objective of this research is to examine the extent to which Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube influence the morals of students at MAS Yaspend Muslim Pematang Tengah. The study employed a quantitative method with a population of 72 students and a sample of 61, selected through simple random sampling. Data were collected through questionnaires, observations, interviews, and documentation, and analyzed using regression. The results show that social media use in general has a significant influence on students’ morals, with a significance value of 0.000 (<0.05), R = 0.777, and R Square = 0.604. This indicates that social media contributes 60.4% to students’ morals, while 39.6% is influenced by other factors such as family, peers, and school. TikTok has the strongest effect with a correlation of 0.686 and R Square = 47.1%, followed by Instagram with a lower effect (r = 0.388; R² = 15.1%), while YouTube has a very minimal effect (r = 0.141; R² = 2%). In conclusion, social media plays a significant role in shaping students’ morals, but parental and teacher guidance remains essential in ensuring wise and responsible social media use.
