This study aims to improve students’ critical thinking skills through the learning of Islamic Cultural History (SKI) at Pesantren Modern Tajussalam Besilam, Padang Tualang District. This research employed a qualitative descriptive approach. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. The research subjects consisted of SKI teachers and seventh-grade students. The findings indicate that the implementation of active learning methods such as discussion, question and answer, and reflection can enhance students’ critical thinking skills, as reflected in their improved analytical abilities, argumentation skills, and active participation in the learning process. Contextual and participatory SKI learning has proven effective in fostering students’ critical thinking skills in a modern pesantren environment.
