Abstract

This study aims to improve students' skills in reading and memorising the Qur'an and Hadith through the application of the Wahdah and Kitabah methods to Grade VIII students at MTs Swasta Teladan Gebang. This study uses a Classroom Action Research (CAR) approach, which was carried out in two cycles, each comprising the stages of planning, action, observation, and reflection. The research subjects were eighth-grade students who had difficulty reading and memorising the Qur'an and Hadith. Data collection techniques were carried out through observation, interviews, tests, and documentation, while data analysis was conducted using descriptive qualitative and quantitative methods. The results showed that the application of the Wahdah and Kitabah methods had a positive effect on improving students' skills. The students' reading ability improved from good in cycle I to very good in cycle II, with the average teacher activity increasing from 75.51 to 91.66, and student activity from 79.50 to 87.07. In addition, the students' memorisation ability also improved from an average score of 76.57 in cycle I to 82.47 in cycle II. This improvement shows that the combination of the Wahdah (reading repetition) and Kitabah (writing verses or hadith) methods is effective in strengthening memory and fostering students' interest in learning the Qur'an and Hadith. Thus, the application of these two methods can be used as an innovative and enjoyable learning strategy to improve students' reading and memorisation skills.
