Abstract

This study aims to analyze the influence of rewards and punishments on the disciplined behavior of 10th grade students at MAN 2 Langkat. The background of this study is the persistent inconsistency in the implementation of the reward and punishment system in schools and the challenges faced by 10th grade students during the transitional period of adaptation, which demands higher discipline. The study used a quantitative correlation approach with a population of 384 10th grade students. The research sample of 80 students was determined using the Slovin formula. Data collection techniques used a questionnaire with a Likert scale as primary data, with interviews and observations as supplementary data. Data analysis used validity test, reliability test, normality test, t test, F test, coefficient of determination test, and multiple linear regression analysis with the help of Microsoft Excel and SPSS. The results showed that the implementation of rewards in MAN 2 Langkat was in the fairly good category with an average score of 4.09, while punishment was also in the fairly good category with an average score of 4.12. Student discipline behavior was in the moderate category with an average score of 4.22. The results of the partial test showed that rewards had a significant effect on discipline behavior with a significance value of 0.002 <0.05 and a regression coefficient of 0.523, while punishment also had a significant effect with a significance value of 0.001 <0.05 and a regression coefficient of 0.646. Simultaneously, rewards and punishment had a significant effect on student discipline behavior with a significance value of 0.000 <0.05 and a contribution of 45.2%, while the remaining 54.8% was influenced by other factors. Thus, the consistent and educational application of rewards and punishments can significantly improve student discipline.
