Abstract

This research aims to evaluate the application of the cooperative learning model type Scramble in improving students’ understanding in the subject of SKI (Science, Technology, and Innovation) for class VII students at MTs Darul Arafah Pangkalan Berandan. The subject of this research is class VII B, consisting of 40 students, 14 male and 26 female. Before applying the Scramble model, it was found that students’ cognitive understanding was still low due to the conventional learning model and the boring learning environment, which led to students being less focused on the material. Based on observations and interviews with the SKI subject teacher, only 24 students (60%) achieved learning mastery. This research is a class action research (PTK) conducted in two cycles, each cycle consisting of two meetings. The research instruments used were observation, tests, and documentation. The Scramble model was applied with a collaborative approach, group discussion, and active concept application. Data were collected through cognitive tests, affective observation, and psychomotor assessment at the end of each meeting. In the first cycle, the number of students who achieved cognitive mastery was 28 students (70%). In the second cycle, the number increased to 35 students (87.5%) with an increase of 17.5%. The affective aspect improved from 83.37% (first cycle) to 87.5% (second cycle), an increase of 4.13%. The psychomotor aspect improved from 82% (first cycle) to 86.5% (second cycle), an increase of 4.5%.The results of this research indicate that the application of the cooperative learning model type Scramble is effective in improving students’ understanding in all aspects. This model can serve as an effective alternative in improving the quality of learning at the MTs level.
