Analisis Perubahan Kurikulum Dalam Mengembangkan Metakognisi Siswa Pada Mata Pelajaran PAI di SMP Negeri 1 Padang Tualang

This study aims to analyze curriculum changes on the development of student metacognition in Islamic Religious Education (PAI) subjects at SMP Negeri 1 Padang Tualang. Using a qualitative approach with field research methods, data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. The research subjects were all students who experienced curriculum changes, while the object was the implementation of the Islamic Education curriculum which was assumed to affect the development of their metacognition. The results showed that, 1) Curriculum changes from the 2013 Curriculum to the Merdeka Curriculum in grades VII and VIII focus on more flexible and contextual learning to shape character according to the profile of Pancasila students, such as creative, independent, and noble character. 2) Teachers strive to develop students' metacognition through group-based learning strategies that encourage students to work together, be creative, and be independent. 3) The Merdeka curriculum plays a role in improving students' critical and reflective thinking skills, which supports the development of their metacognition by emphasizing understanding of their own thinking processes.
