Abstract

In the learning process, a learning model serves as a guideline for teachers in planning classroom instruction. However, the reality in Grade VI of MIN 8 Langkat shows that only a few students are actively involved in the learning process, while the others tend to remain passive and only listen to the teacher. The presentation of learning materials is less varied because it relies solely on student textbooks without using instructional media or learning models that encourage students to actively participate. As a result, students’ low participation affects their understanding of the learning material. Therefore, efforts are needed to make students more active in learning. One approach that can be applied is the Think Pair Share (TPS) learning model. This study aimed to determine teacher and student activities and to improve students’ learning outcomes in Grade VI of MIN 8 Langkat. This research employed Classroom Action Research (CAR). The research data were collected using teacher activity observation sheets, student activity observation sheets, and achievement tests. The data were analyzed using percentage formulas. The results showed that (1) teacher teaching activity in Cycle I reached 73.91% and increased to 88.04% in Cycle II; (2) student learning activity in Cycle I reached 75% and increased to 89.13% in Cycle II; and (3) student learning outcomes in Cycle I reached 68.42% and increased to 89.47% in Cycle II. Based on these results, it can be concluded that the implementation of the cooperative learning model of Think Pair Share (TPS) makes the learning process more active and significantly improves students’ learning outcomes.
