Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effect of using the Reading Corner on the literacy skills of Grade IV students at SDIT Ar- Ridha Pantai Cermin. The background of this study is the low literacy scores of students identified from the PISA 2022 results data and field observations. This study used a pre-experiment method with a quantitative approach, adopting a One- Group Pretest-Posttest design. Data were collected through tests, observations, interviews, and documentation, and analyzed using validity, reliability, normality, linearity, hypothesis, simple linear regression, correlation, and t-test tests. The results showed that: 1) The influence of the Reading Corner on students is in the moderate category, with the frequency distribution of the categories of very good (8%), good (19%), moderate (31%), less (28%), and very less (19%). 2) Students' literacy skills improved to the good category, with a distribution of excellent (15%), good (31%), fair (27%), poor (15%), and very poor (12%) categories. 3) Statistical analysis shows that the Reading Corner has a significant effect on students' literacy skills, as evidenced by the calculated t value of 4.894 which is greater than the t table of 2.003. These results indicate that the Reading Corner can be an effective solution in improving students' literacy skills. This study recommends a more optimal management of the Reading Corner by adding a variety of books and getting students used to reading before learning begins. This implementation is expected to help overcome literacy problems at the primary school level.
