Penerapan Pendekatan Whole Language Untuk Meningkatkan Kemampuan Membaca Siswa Pada Pembelajaran Bahasa Indonesia Kelas IV MIN 4 Langkat
Abstract
This study was motivated by the low reading skills of grade IV students at MIN 4 Langkat due to the lack of teacher variation in the use of learning media. This study aims to determine the application of the Whole Language Approach in improving the reading skills of grade IV students in the Indonesian Language subject at MIN 4 Langkat. This study uses the type of classroom action research or called Classroom Action Research. The subjects in the classroom action research conducted by the researcher were all 26 students of class IV B at MIN 4 Langkat. The research procedures carried out included Planning, Action, Observation and Reflection activities. The results of the study showed that students' reading skills in cycle I obtained a percentage for Understanding the contents of the text of 54.8%, Accuracy of the main idea 56.7%, accuracy of sentence structure 59.6%, spelling and spelling 52.9% and accuracy of selecting the contents of the message / message 67.3%. While reading skills in cycle II obtained a percentage for understanding the contents of 74%, accuracy of the main idea 72.1%%, accuracy of sentence structure 74%, spelling and spelling 84.6%, and accuracy of selecting the contents of the message / message 73.1% with good information for each indicator. This proves that the reading skills of grade IV students have increased and the completion of students' reading skills has been achieved classically.
